Ok, I futzed with it and if I save the SVG as "Optimized SVG" in Inkscape, the screwup does not happen. That is, when I save it as Optimized SVG, the spans of the texts increase. But their positioning doesn't. Then when SVG.Net reads/writes it, it stays the same.
