New install of Android Studio crashes opening project [closed]

I'm moving to a new laptop at work. The old laptop was Windows 11, new one is also Windows 11 (a bit newer and more powerful) All other installations of apps have worked fine, but of course the most important is Android Studio. I downloaded the android-studio-2025.2.3.9-windows.exe from the Android Developer site and installed it. Application comes up fine, prompts me to install SDK, but when I try to open a project the file dialog comes up but after a few seconds the app crashes. I thought that it was due to me clicking too fast, but even if I don't tap on anything after "open project" it crashes.

Similarly, if I try to clone a project from Git if I click on the File Dialog the app crashes. I can get around it by writing the file paths myself rather than using a dialog but it's very annoying.

I uninstalled the app, and reinstalled "as Administrator" and did all the steps again but it's still not working. Also deleted the downloaded SDK, deleted the setting under /AppData/Google, did full Invalidate Caches... not clear what's going on

Anyone have a clue to help me?
