How to fix Javascript errors in 2001 MS Press CD ROM meant for Windows 98/2000? [closed]

In 2001 I sat the Microsoft MCSE exam 70-229 "SQL Server Database Design and Implementation", and bought the Microsoft Press "Readiness Review" book to help prepare.

My daughter is now learning SQL and I would like to use the SQL questions from the CD-ROM supplied with that book, but if I try to use it on any of my computers going back to Windows XP (with IE8) I get JavaScript errors such as:

"objBigList.documentElement is null or not an object", in file QuestionListGen.js

"Operation is not allowed when the object is closed", in file QuestionXMLManip.js

The version of Internet Explorer enclosed on the CD-ROM is v5.5 and the target OS was Windows 95/98 or 2000 or NT.

I'd like to try to debug it myself, but the .JS files on the disk are stored in binary, not text. Is there any modern software that could help me, or would I be wasting my time?

Is there some discontinued code library I could install on my XP box?

Thanks
