All do basically the same thing, tracking the files that make up your project, helping you to edit those files, running and debugging your code, & helping to compile and build your app. The IDEs differ in their details, mechanics, and specialized features. Like Chevy vs Ford vs Ram trucks, they each do the same job, but each has their fans.
